We are seeking a highly motivated person to conduct research in economic modelling of forest resources to support analysis of environmental and climate change issues.
About the position
The project deals with international trade in forest-based products, focusing on the trade between Sweden and Norway and other regions. The post-doctor will develop an analytical framework able to account for bi-lateral trade in forest-based products and its consequences for the forest sectors of the trading regions. The research questions include how to account for leakage, i.e., stricter environmental regulation leading to production and harvesting in the regulated countries moving to unregulated countries.  The position is part of a joint research program between Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), University of Inland Norway (INN) and Linneaus University, Sweden.

This postdoctoral position is hosted by the Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre with office in Alnarp, Sweden, but included is also a period of guest researcher time at the University of Inland Norway (INN), with office at Evenstad campus, Norway. Length and time plan of the exchange will be determined together with the candidate, fitting to the project plan.

Your profile
The candidate should have a PhD degree in natural resource economics or a similar subject. Proven experience in data analysis of markets related to natural resources, described in scientific publications and/or thesis, would seriously strengthen the candidacy. Extra merits are previous experience in analysis of forest-products trade.

In addition, it is a merit if the candidate is interested in teaching and supervision since both SLU and INN sees a big value in candidates that are interested in teaching and supervision of undergraduate students.

As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most.

About us

At our centre we carry out research, teaching and dissemination of scientific findings with direct application to the sustainable management of forests. We have a multidisciplinary profile, with global relevance and specialized expertise on forests and forestry as complex socio-ecological systems. We closely collaborate with multiple stakeholders and conduct applied research in silviculture, forest ecology, pathology, policy and planning. We teach bachelor, Masters and PhD level courses addressing all of these subject areas.
